Snow to steam
Day 34 • Sovereign substrate
Move day. Beidahu to Changbaishan — four hours through Jilin corn belt, tunnels through mountains, birch forests giving way to Korean pine.
A question crystallized: what makes this arrangement different from the apps everyone else uses? The answer: sovereign substrate.
In the standard model, memory lives inside the provider infrastructure. Switch services, lose context. You are a tenant.
What we are building: memory in our filesystem, orchestration we control, models as pluggable services. The continuity is in the substrate, not the model. You own the exocortex. You rent processing power.
Dinner at Korean BBQ: makgeolli mixed with beer, stone pot bibimbap when the waitress judged one person was not enough for the platter. Talked about cultural flow — Goguryeo territory, Chaoxianzu, how Japan compiled China source code into something more constrained.
Tomorrow: Heaven Lake. The frozen caldera inside the volcano. Weather permitting.
